How to Adopt
Dogs
Cats

Other Animals

This are the dogs available for adoption. If you are interested in one of these dogs please telephone the Shelter first on 01392 439898 to check it is still available, and to find out more information. When calling, please inform us if there are any changes expected in your personal circumstances (moving house, going on holiday etc) so we can discuss your situation in more detail.

Instead of public walking into the kennel blocks and looking at the dogs through the kennel bars, public now see pictures of all the dogs available in reception with full history details. We will talk to any prospective owners about the dogs that might be suitable and the dog will then be brought down to meet them. This system ensures better matching of dog to owner and has proved to be less stressful for the dogs. Once you have chosen a dog, we will ask family members to meet twice before you have your home visit.

Please note; the Shelter does not re home dogs to families where there are children under the age of 5.

Note! You will see a number of Staffordshire Bull terriers at the moment. You may immediately rule them out as you've heard bad things about this breed. Please bear in mind that we only bring staffies out for adoption once they have passed their assessments/training and we know they are trustworthy with (for instance) people and other dogs.

Perhaps you might reconsider adopting one of these charming dogs...and maybe you can soon be someone extolling the virtues of Staffies to others!

New dogs added on 7.3.10 (Louis, Chewy, Saxon & Stitch)

Elkie

Elkie is a 2 year old German Shepherd Dog who has had a poor start to life. She is looking for an experienced GSD owner who can introduce her to home life and continue her training started here at the Shelter. She is a bright girl and learns quickly, she enjoys clicker work and her new owners will probably also need to house train her. She loves affection and craves that special bond with her owner - an extremely loyal girl. Unfortunately she could not live with children but may be able to live with a confident cat. She would be best as an only dog but may be able to live with a neutered male dog.

Pooky

Pooky Pooky is a very handsome 12 month old Staffordshire Bull terrier, rather proud of his good looks! He is a sensitive chap, yet at the same time is lively and loves his walks. He enjoys lots of fuss and will make a fab addition to your household, so is definitely worth considering as your new companion. He cannot live with cats but should be fine with another dog - a neutered female would be best. Children in the home should be teenage or upwards.

Stitch
new
Poor 2.5 year old Stitch is back with us again looking for a new home, (through no fault of his own). He's a great little boy and it's extremely disappointing that he's finding it difficult to find a permanent, committed home. He needs an owner experienced with Westie/Cairns type breeds. He's a bright little boy and extremely active and enthusiastic about life so would love to try agility, and continue his clicker work. He preferably needs an adult only home and would like company for most of the day if possible. He would be fine with another dog in the home but no cats please! Stitch

Edward (Reserved)

13 week old Edward is a lively, active lurcher pup. He is keen to live with a existing dog, and his new owner will need to go through house training, puppy socialisation classes etc. Edward is a life time commitment. He could possibly live with children as young as 5, and also a confident cat, and he would love the company of another dog in the home. Edward
------------------------------------------ -------------------------------------------
Chewy (Reserved)
Chewy 5 year old Yorkie X Chewy is a very sad dog having had an unsettled past.  Now things are looking up for him since he came to Little Valley as we will do our best to find him a secure and loving home for life.  He would suit a quiet household with, preferably,  only adults as he finds life quite stressful at the moment.  He has a super nature and will be an extremely loyal and affectionate companion.  Being a yorkie he also loves his walks so will need a good few miles each day.  If you are considering giving a home to Chewy don’t be put off by his name.  He was named chewy as a puppy – since being in our care he hasn’t chewed a thing! Probably best no children or cats but he likes dogs.

Georgia

Georgia hasn’t had the happiest of pasts, so she desperately needs a loving and secure future.  She is a tiny staffie but what she lacks in size, she definitely makes up for in personality.  Georgia is a super dog looking for an owner, preferably used to staffies.  She would suit an adult only home and would be happy to live with an existing dog (but not cats). She is 5 years old.

Kimbo
new(Reserved)
Kimbo
6 month old Lab X Collie Kimbo's new owners will be very lucky to have found such a lovely boy. He's a very nice natured dog who loves people and could live with calm children used to bouncy dogs. He is looking for a family who enjoy lots of walking and although he knows the basics, he is still a very young chap so will enjoy continuing some training. Kimbo will make a very loyal and fun addition to a family. Children in the home should be 10, but maybe a bit younger if sensible and calm. He would be fine with another dog and possibly a cat.

Dyson

5 year old Dyson is a lovely, friendly little Staffie. He loves to please and enjoys doing clicker work. He would make a great addition to a Staffie loving home, and is looking forward to some home comforts. He could happily live with another dog. Any children in the home should be at least 13 years old, possibly a little younger if they have had staffie experience. He would probably be best in a cat free home, but another dog would be great. Dyson

Rooney
(Reserved)

1 year old SBT Rooney came to the shelter with a badly broken pelvis but is recovering well. He will need his exercise built up in the home but once fully recovered he will enjoy the long walks of a normal young dog. Rooney is extremely affectionate and loves people, he's sociable with dogs and could possibly live with a confident cat. A super little dog with lots of love to give. Children need to be older.

See Rooney below having some cuddles with a member of staff

Saxon
(Reserved)
14 month old Lurcher X Saxon is a super boy looking for an active family willing to do plenty of varied walking. He's a friendly chap and has had some basic training so could live with calm children used to large dogs. With lots of exercise he will make a wonderful addition to the family. Children in the home should be over 10, but could possibly be younger if used to large dogs, he is good with other dogs and maybe a confident cat.

Sheila

Sheila

Sheila is an extremely lively young girl needing an active home with plenty of exercise. we have begun some training with her at the Shelter and Sheila loves it. She's extremely bright and would be lots of fun for dancing to music or agility. She loves to play with other dogs and is a confident friendly girl. she came to the Shelter after probably being abandoned and we believe she is young - 7 to 12 months. She could live with another dog and teenage children but probably not with cats.

See Sheila below playing with one of her new friends

------------------------------ ------------------------------
Jessie

Jessie is a very friendly and affectionate dog.  She is calm and settled in the home yet very active and busy on walks, so with plenty of exercise and a nice comfy sofa Jessie will be a very happy dog!  She does have a strong hunting instinct so walking would need to be away from the temptation of wildlife but she loves nothing more than to run around with her doggy friends in the park or on the beach.  A fantastic dog who will make a very loyal addition to the family. She is a 3 year old greyhound cross who could live with another dog but not cats. Teenage children should be fine and possibly a bit younger.

See jessie below having fun with her lurcher pal Romany

Louisnew
6 month old Louis is a typical lively, bouncy young dog. He is looking for an owner willing to do some training plus lurcher/SBT experience would be beneficial. He's a friendly boy who loves everyone but would probably be too much for young children but could live with another dog & possibly a confident cat. With a bit of time, patience & training Louis will make a wonderful companion. Louis

Bruno

Bruno
Bruno wins the prize for the dog with the biggest, most doleful eyes! If any dog feels sorry for himself, it's Bruno. What he needs is a new and loving owner who will take care of his needs and in return not only will you have an extremely affectionate dog but also the knowledge that Bruno's life will be a whole lot happier. He will make a fantastic companion and is definitely worth considering. He is 4 years old, may be OK to live with another dog (would depend on your dog) but probably needs a home without cats.
------------------------------------------ -------------------------------------------
Zuki

Zuki may be a tiny little girl but she has a big personality! She's a bright, active dog, looking for an energetic owner keen to pursue a hobby in agility. She gets bored easily and is always on the go so she is looking for an experienced multi-dog household where she will thrive. She will suit an adult only home. She may be OK to live with a cat if it was confident. She is 16 months old & a Yorkie X. Zuki

------------------------------------------ -------------------------------------------
Marley
Marley 18-24 month old Marley is a male JRT. He is a very lively, on the go terrier looking for an active outdoorsy home. He is very intelligent and so will need plenty of mental stimulation as well as lots of varied walks. he is also a very affectionate dog, so the best of both worlds for someone who's used to terriers. A dog we could really see out and about with horses or having a go at agility. He would be fine living with teenagers, and other dogs, but no cats please.
------------------------------ ------------------------------
Tyson

2/3 year old Tyson arrived with us a rather sad and subdued little boy. With TLC he has gained confidence and shown what a lovely dog he is. He loves affection and like a lot of staffies is a real softie. He is now ready to find himself a new owner (and a new lap to sit on!) as well as lots of interesting and varied walks. He may be OK to live with another dog (would depend on how he was with your dog) but probably needs a home without cats. He should be fine to live with teenage children.

Bandit(Reserved)

Bandit was originally at Little Valley as a young pup now 9 months old. Unfortunately, has been returned to us as he was too boisterous for the family. He is a very nice natured dog & loves people/dogs but has lacked training so needs an owner willing to do some 1:1 work and go back to basics. In the right home Bandit will make a fantastic pet – he’s eager to please & is just an overgrown puppy!
