Dog Viewing Information

Instead of public walking into the kennel blocks and looking at the dogs through the kennel bars, public now see pictures of all the dogs available in reception with full history details. We will talk to any prospective owners about the dogs that might be suitable and the dog will then be brought down to meet them. This system ensures better matching of dog to owner and has proved to be less stressful for the dogs. Once you have chosen a dog, we will ask family members to meet twice before you have your homevisit.

Please note; the Shelter does not rehome dogs to families where there are children under the age of 5.

  Scooby Fluke (Rehomed)
  Fluke

Scooby is a lively, fun, exuberant 9 month old boy.   He is extremely bright and quick to learn and loves to go on our agility course.  And he is definitely one of the handsomest dogs in the kennels at the moment and he knows it!!  He will make a wonderful loyal companion and is extremely affectionate. He is medium sized with a large personality and would really benefit from training classes as he loves to learn and to please. He may be OK to live with another dog and might be able to live with cats and older children. Plenty of exercise and stimulation will be needed.

Update; We have been training Scooby to do agility - click below to watch!

Fluke is an extremely loving and loyal boy. His past has been a little unsettling so his new owners will need to give him time to get used to his new routines. he would suit a calm household and would love to continue his 'clicker' training. an absolute darling who you just can't help falling in love with! He is 15 months old and could live with older children (teenagers), would be fine with another dogs and could also possibly live with a cat. He came into us as his owner was not able to cope with him in a 2nd floor flat.

Prince (Rehomed) Rod (Reserved), Jane and Freddie
  Prince pups

Prince has taken a while to settle in here and is only now coming out of his shell. He needs a settled, calm home who will give him the time to gain his trust. GSD experience would be ideal, as once confident he will need further positive socialisation. He is a real softie who loves to be made a fuss of. He is 4 years old and came to us after his owner passed away. Due to his timidity he would be better off without young children but teenagers should be OK. He could live with another dog and cats are a possibility but a further assessment would be needed.

Rod, Jane and Freddie are 3 pups looking for committed active owners. the 2 boys are quite timid and would benefit from a dog already in the home to give them confidence and to help them settle. the girl is more confident and can be a little mouthy so calm owners with clear boundaries will be beneficial. They will all make wonderful companions to the right families. They are cross breed pups (we're not sure what they are - collie cross lurcher is possible) aged about 8-9 weeks (June 20th 08). As a condition of adoption, anyone taking on one of these pups will need to take it to socializing classes and have this organized before taking him/her home.
  Arthur Harry
  Arthur Harry

Arthur is a 3 year old lurcher type who loves his home comforts so is very keen to find himself a new owner soon.  He is a big affectionate softie who has a lot of love to give.  In return he would love a big run every day to stretch his legs with an active and committed owner.  He will require a fully secure garden with at least 6ft fencing and may suit an urban environment best as he will chase sheep.   He is quite strong on the lead. He was oringinally found abandonded and went to one home unsuccesfully before landing at Little Valley's doors. He could be homed with children over 10 years and may be OK to live with another dog, but not cats.

See Arthur run!

Harry is a lovely natured gentle boy who is extrememly deserving of a loving and understanding owner to call his own. He does have some things to learn (eg house-training) but he loves to please, so training should be quite straightforward. A real softie and quite a charmer! He is just over a year old and came to us when his owner was no longer able to look after him. There should no be any chldren in his new home but might be OK to live with another dog (but not cats).

  Jesse Scooby Doo
  Jesse Scooby Doo
10 year old little Jesse is looking for a calm retirement home where not too many pressures will be put upon him. He has been a sweet boy here who just wants calm and gentle handling. He can not be left as he will mess, and due to his age crate-training would only be possible for short periods. Frequent short walks for exercise would be ideal for Jesse, he should be in a child and cat free home, but would be fine with other calm dogs. Because of his age he does qualify for our 'Golden Oldies' which will help with some of his age-related expenses should he need any in the future. Ask about this at reception. Scooby was originally at the Shelter in 2003 but unfortunately was returned to us this year due to owner's health reasons. She is an 8 year old cross breed and is a really lovely affectionate girl, looking for a comfortable retirement.  She wants a peaceful calm home with regular shortish walks where she can run and play and work off some of her excess weight! She should be the only pet in the home but could live with children over 10 years.
  Peaches Meg
  Peaches Meg
Peaches  is an 8 year old Rottweiler who was brought to us when her owners were moving and couldn't take her. She is looking for a calm, quiet household as she gets quite worried about lots of comings and goings.  She is a real softie and despite her age and size she loves to have play.  Her new owners will need to continue with her weight loss regime.  Ideally she will be happiest being an only dog in an adult only environment. We think she could live with teenagers and possibly cats. Meg was originally at the Shelter in 2003 but unfortunately was returned to us this year due to owner's health reasons. She is an 8 year old cross breed and is a really lovely affectionate girl, looking for a comfortable retirement.  She wants a peaceful calm home with regular shortish walks where she can run and play and work off some of her excess weight! She should be the only dog in the home (a further assessmnet would be neded about cats) and could live with children over 10 years.
  Bess (Rehomed) Cassie (Reserved)

Bess
Cassie
Bess is an adorable, gentle Bedlington X about 11 years of age. She doesn't want to be in kennels for too long. She is far too much the dignified lady! Bess is looking for a calm retirement home where she can enjoy a few luxeries. However despite her age she is still quite a character & can be a little cheeky. Needs little and often grooming. Cassie is a lively, bright girl looking for an experienced calm owner. She is very active so needs plenty of exercise. Also she will need to have her mind stimulated with clicker, agility etc, which will give her something to focus on and an outlet for all her energy. A very typical lively year old terrier, in need of clear boundaries and stimulation.
  May Matty
  May Matty

May is a very active collie in need of plenty of exercise. She is very bright but does have quite a strong herding/chase instinct which she redirects towards traffic etc. Her new owners should be prepared to put some work in with may eg clicker/agility. they will be well rewarded with a loving, fun affectionate companion. She is 16 months old and was brought in by an RSPCA inspector when her owners could no longer cope.

Very much a SBT puppy, who needs sensible, experienced owners with other sociable dogs in the home. He is a mouthy, pushy boy, so calm handling with boundaries recommended. He will need to attend puppy socialisation classes.
  Gabe
  gabe
Gabe is a English Bull Terrier cross who is quite a character and is extremely deserving of a new loving owner. He is a real sooftie who loves to please. His new owners should be prepared to invest some time into Gabe but he's well worth the effort and they will have themselves a super dog. He is just over a year old and came to us when his owner was no longer able to look after him. There should no be any chldren in his new home but might be OK to live with another dog (but not cats).
